Requirements
If you want to work in a foreign country as a nurse, you must begin the documentation process in the embassy of the country you want to work. Without the visa and legal documents is impossible to work as a professional.
The visa for counties such as Spain, France, and Germany could last between two weeks and a month and the expenses are about $250 and $ 400 (depending on which country you are from).
In case you want to go to US, you’ll need the visa and be registered and certified by the commission on graduates on foreign nursing schools (CGFNS). In Spain, professionals in nursing have to revalidate their academic degree in the Science and Education Office.
Language
Before to work as a nursing professional in a foreign country, you should learn a second language. English is the most spoken language in the world, that’s why most of nursing schools include this subject as part of the academic training.
In order to work in an English spoken country (US, UK, Australia, etc) you must have an international certification in English language. This certification is obtained after passing the TOEFL exam, which has 2 years of validation. For other countries such as France and Italy, it’s necessary to certify intermediate level in the local language.
Schedules
If you plan to work as a nurse in a foreign country, forget about part time jobs. Nursing professionals work full time, it means 8 hours a day and in some cases could be 12, the schedules change every month but not in all countries. In Italy, most of foreign nursing professionals work in the evenings during the first 3 months.
Salaries
As in most of professions, salaries depend on the experience and performance. A nursing professional in Europe can earn about 800 and 1000 Euros per month during the first year. With 2 or more years of experience, a nursing professional can earn about 1600 and 2000 Euros per month.
In US, the salary of a foreign nurse is about $500 and $800 during the training phase, which last 6 months. After that, the salary of a nurse in US will depend on the work hours. A nursing professional who completed the training phase could earn about $2000 and $2500 depending of the experience and the workplace.
